Who am I, and why am I telling you what to do with your audiobook?

ABOUT

I'm an audiobook industry professional located in Toronto, Ontario. (Canada. Just in case.) I've executive produced over 80 titles and launched & developed 3 imprints. I've done everything from business development, marketing, and acquisitions to proofing books, agonizing over re-creating book covers in 1:1 ratios, and spending hours on the phone with GoDaddy customer service.

MY CRED

I started my career in 2013 working at the wonderful (and GTA-located!) Audiobooks.com as their first-ever content curator/merchandiser. I got my sea legs in the industry working with their amazing team, and my role eventually grew to include copywriting, social media, and other marketing responsibilities.

I had the privilege to co-found Author's Republic, the first-to-market audiobook distribution service bringing indie authors and publishers to non-ACX channels, and Audiobooks.com Publishing, a traditional audiobook publisher, with Meaghan Sansom for owner Sanjay Singhal. Creating these companies threw us deep into new aspects of the industry, helped bring many stories to the masses, and taught us a lot. Like, a lot. Both companies were acquired in 2016 by Big Scary Corporation.

Post-acquisition, I acted as Co-founder and Director of Publishing for Novel Audio, where I brought our total library count up to over a hundred titles, launched indie-focused romance imprint audiOMG!, won several SOVAS and Earphones Awards (and an Audie nom or two!), and got to work with amazing producers and narrators all over the world.

In January 2019, I started as the Director of Original Content at Rakuten Kobo. I’m currently developing Modern Lore Publishing, an audiobook publishing company dedicated to bringing wonderful back list titles to life again in audio. And to top it all off, I’m looking for ways to help publishers, authors, and other organizations develop their own audiobook businesses, whether that means bringing one book to market or one hundred. I look at every title through the lenses of retailer, distributor, and publisher.

MY MISSION

It can be difficult to get started in a new format (especially one with a notoriously high price tag attached), but it's worth it. My goal is this: make audiobooks easy. Sometimes, that means educating and helping an organization build a system they can use to publish titles on their own. Sometimes, it means coordinating full start-to-finish production services for an author who just wants to get the book out there.

I want to help tear down obstacles standing between content creators and the audiobook world. I believe non-exclusivity is critical for the health of the industry. I want to democratize access to established and emerging audiobook markets. I want to promote color-blind casting and diversity in both audiobooks and their readers. I'm thrilled to see the Canadian industry growing, and am passionate about helping to shape its path to the maximum benefit of all Canadians.
