Why audiobooks?

 

It's the question on everyone's lips (literally): are audiobooks the next big thing? (Spoiler alert: yes.) With double-digit growth year over year for six years running and ever-more distributors jumping into the game, there's no doubt that audiobooks have shifted from a niche market to a mass market. With almost three billion dollars spent in 2017 in the US alone, there's definitely money to be made. That being said, money isn’t everything. Here are a few other compelling reasons to turn your work into an audiobook:

  • The opportunity to creatively develop your work further by adding a performative element (and maybe even sound effects and music, if that's your thing);

  • A great way to help build your brand, especially for life coaches, thought leaders and entrepreneurs;

  • New marketing opportunities, including cross-marketing your title across formats;

  • A chance to bring your story to audiences who couldn't otherwise access it, including the visually impaired, those with print disabilities like dyslexia and other cognitive impairments, or those with physical disabilities that make it difficult or impossible to hold a book or e-reader;

  • It's just really cool.
